Statement by the Finnish Union of University Professors to the Culture and Science Subcommittee on the state budget proposal for 2025

The Finnish Union of University Professors thanks the Finnish Government for investing in Finland’s research and development activities towards a 4% share of GDP. Government investments in RDI activities enable economic growth and encourage companies to invest in innovations and renewal of industries. The professoriate has participated and participates extensively in R&D activities in addition to basic research and education.

Investments in research, education and skills are particularly important in a situation where the structural problem of the Finnish economy is weak productivity growth, and productivity growth is slowed down by low production and investments that regenerate industries. The Finnish Union of University Professors points out that research-based decision-making and education have an impact on well-being, inclusion and maintaining social peace.
