Statement on the Government’s legislative proposal to Parliament for the amendment of the Copyright Act and Act on Electronic Communications Services

As researchers, members of the Finnish Union of University Professors are authors as well as users of copyright-protected works. The copyrights of researchers must not be limited, and the current researcher exception must be maintained.

The Union considers that the objectives of the Government’s legislative proposal and related justifications are leaning in the right direction and generally in keeping with the basis for the European Union’s DSM Directive. The current situation has been realistically described.

The Union presents a number of detailed proposals for improvements to the legislation.
