Statement on the proposal for a new Government Decree on the Research and Innovation Council

The Finnish Union of University Professors supports the strengthening of the role of the Research and Innovation Council in the management and coordination of research and innovation policy and in the monitoring and harmonisation of the implementation of the legislative act on research and development funding and the financial plan in the manner presented in the proposal. The Union emphasises the importance of openness and the involvement of the scientific community and stakeholders when preparing national strategic choices.

The Union views it as important for the Prime Minister to serve as the head of the Research and Innovation Council. It is the Union’s opinion that there should be more internationally distinguished Finnish professors serving as members of the Council.
