Statement to the Education and Culture Committee on the Government budget for 2023

Finland’s goal is to increase the research and development expenditure to four per cent of GDP by 2030 in accordance with the Government Programme, the national RDI roadmap and the final report of the Parliamentary RDI Working Group.

The 2023 budget proposal takes into account the additional Government investments for the RDI package as decided on in connection with the Government’s finance plan for 2023-2026. The Finnish Union of University Professors finds that its concerns about the role of scientific research and the resourcing of research-based higher education and RDI activities have been heard.
